Karamoja minister Goretti Kitutu to appear in court today, charged with corruption

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has sanctioned charges of corruption and conspiracy to commit a felony against Karamoja minister, Hon. Kitutu Mary Goretti Kimono for diverting iron sheets meant for the Karamoja Community Empowerment Programme.

In a communication released on Wednesday, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Jane Frances Abodo has consented to the charges and Police have been directed to produce the Minister in court for plea today 6th April 2023.

The court appearance of Ms Kitutu comes merely two days after a committee of parliament handed her over to the police CID to record a statement.

The investigations into the diversion of Karamoja relief items has since spread wider with the Office of the Inspectorate of Government last month revealing that at least 22 ministers, 31 MPs and 13 chief administrative officers implicated in the iron sheet scandal.

According to the DPP, each suspected recipient of the iron sheets has a case file and the DPP will make a decision on each case file when submitted by the Police, based on the evidence and the law.
