The death toll from the road accident which happened yesterday at Kinoni in Lwengo District along Masaka-Mbarara Highway has risen to 10.
The fatal accident which happened at 7:30PM on Wednesday at Kaganda towards Kyojja swamp in Kinoni along Masaka – Mbarara highway involved a trailer which lost control after one of its tyres burst and rammed into into two other vehicles including a commuter taxi and a saloon car.
It is alleged that motor vehicle Registration Number RAF 168S/RL 1426 Mercedes Benz Actros trailer from Masaka heading to Mbarara side had a rear tyre bust, lost control and crossed over to the lane of on-coming vehicles, rammed into 2 vehicles: Registration No UBJ084N Toyota Hiace and UAP126A.
Initially, police had reported that the incident claimed nine lives and 12 injured victims were rushed to Masaka hospital for first aid with 1 in critical condition.
Latest reports indicate that one of the victims died in hospital but details of the deceased have not been divulged.
