UPDF soldier dies in attack by armed assailants in Kapeeka

A UPDF soldier is among three people who died following an attack on Sunday morning by unknown armed assailants in Kapeeka, Nakaseke District.

According to the UPDF spokesman Felix Kulayigye, the incident happened at around 10:30AM when two assailants armed with an AK47 riffle attacked UPDF soldiers on foot patrol in Kikondo cell, Kapeka Town Council killing Private Tufeyo Obed RA/260979.

On contact, Kulayigye said the assailants shot dead Obed but his colleagues also fired back on target killing the two attackers and recovered the gun used in the attack.

He stated that no weapon was lost by UPDF in the attacj.

In a related incident, security on Saturday killed the assailant who carried an attack on a sentry along Ambercourt road in Gadaffi barracks, Jinja when a UPDF soldier was killed and 2 SMG riffles stolen.

In the intelligence-led operation conducted in Iganga, Kulayigye said the two guns were recovered.
