Gun stolen by thugs in a raid at Police barracks recovered from Pit latrine in Kireka

Police at Jinja Road Police station today recovered a gun from a pit latrine in Kireka, Kira Division Wakiso District.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango, the gun was stolen from Kireka Police barracks in Nakawa Division on the 14th November 2022, at night from a police officer’s house.

Onyango stated that the gun an AK-47 SMG riffle was recovered with 22 rounds of live ammunitions.

Its alleged that on 14th November 2022 at around 0200hrs, unknown thugs broke into the house of one of the police officer’s within the same barracks.

Fortunately, one of the victims woke up, chased the thieves and managed to cut one on the head with a panga but still the gun thief took off and boarded a waiting boda-boda which rushed him to Naguru China hospital for treatment.

After dropping the thug to the hospital, the boda-boda ridder managed to go back to the scene to inquire what had happened and later he led people to the hospital where the thug identified as Onekalit John, aged 34yrs old, was arrested.

Identified by police as a casual worker, the suspect is a resident of Kamwokya-Kisalosalo zone, Kampala central Division.

Upon search, Onyango says a National identity card of the police officer whose gun was stolen was found in his pocket together with 05 live ammunitions. He then took people to Kireka barracks which led to the recovery of the said gun from the toilet.

The suspect is currently at Jinja road police station and he is mentioning his accomplices and buyers of their stolen properties.
