Deputy speaker Tayebwa directs cancellation of field trips for MPs

The Deputy Speaker, Thomas Tayebwa has directed the clerk of parliament to cancel all field trips for MPs especially those organized during a period when there are plenary sittings.

Tayebwa’s directive follows a matter raised by Bukooli Central MP Solomon Silwany informing the house that there are many field visits which may affect the EALA exercise as many MPs may be in the field.

In support of Silwany’s concern, Bugabula county MP, Henry Kibalya requested the Speaker to emphasize the issue so that every member is present during the exercise.

The Deputy Speaker also noted that it has come to his attention that there are several pending bills before committees which need to be expedited.

He however added that only committees with special clearance from the presiding officer will be allowed to travel.

“In the event, we have plenary sitting, no committee should go to the field because it’s key that you attend” Tayebwa stated.
