Uganda’s Crested cranes crowned CECAFA Women Champions 2022 after beating Burundi 3-1

The Uganda Women’s National football team, the Crested Cranes, have been crowned champions of the 2022 CECAFA Women’s Challenge following a 3-1 convincing win against Burundi in finals played on Saturday at FUFA Technical Centre Njeru.

Sandra Nabweteme and Fazila Ikwaput were on target for Uganda while the only goal for Burundi came from Joelle Bukuru.

Barely two minutes into the game, Sandra Nabweteme sent the Crested Cranes fans into jubilation with a calm pressing, thanks to Hasifah Nassuna’s brilliant pass.

With only a minute to halftime break, the tournament MVP, Fazila Ikwaput doubled Uganda’s lead with a brilliant goal scoring from Sandra Nabweteme’s pass a few yards from the goal.

However, in the first three minutes of the second half, Uganda’s midfield slept, Burundi got a moment and Joelle Bukuru used it to have a consolation for Burundi in the 48th minute.

Sandra Nabweteme who have enjoyed scoring against Burundi in this tournament sealed Uganda’s victory and her brace in the 90+1 minutes.
