Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna enthroned as New Bishop of Kigezi Diocese

The Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna has today been consecrated and enthroned as the Bishop of Kigezi Diocese.

The consecration was held on Sunday at Kigezi High School Primary School playground in Kabale district and was presided over by Church of Uganda Archbishop, Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu. Rt. Rev. Akanjuna succeeds the Rt. Rev. George Bagamuhunda.

The chief guest was President Yoweri Museveni but represented at the event by his Special envoy and Former Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda. In his message, Museveni congratulated the new Bishop who he said has become part of the team to build the nation from a spiritual stand and also from the developmental dimension.

Museveni thanked the outgoing Bishop Bagamuhunda for the service he unwaiveringly gave to the people of Kigezi but also noted that Bishop Akanjuna comes at a time when the Church has since metaphosed from being a recipient from the congregation to a “think tank” and therefore urged religious leaders to preach the gospel of hard work.

Before his election, Ven. Akanjuna was serving as an Archdeacon, based at All Saints’ Church, Kabale. He had served in several Archdeaconries as an Archdeacon, as a parish priest, and as a Teacher.

He was elected to take the position by the House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda sitting at Lweza Training and Conference Centre on 9th February, 2022. Bishop Akanjuna is married to Jackline Charity and the Lord has blessed them with children.

Bishop. Akanjuna was born 10th August 1962. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Diploma of Theology from Uganda Christian University, and a Certificate in Theology from Bishop Barham Divinity College.
