Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister, Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, confirmed the safe return of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II to Uganda after spending weeks in Europe.

The Premier said in a tweet that Kabaka Mutebi arrived into the country in the wee hours of Saturday morning and he is reigning over his kingdom.

“Ntegeeza Obuganda nti Ssaabasajja Kabaka yakomyewo okuva emitala w’awamayanja ekiro eky’akeseeza leero era ali bulungi, alamula Obwakabaka bwe!” Mayiga’s message in Luganda reads; His Majesty the Kabaka returned from abroad, he is healthy and reigning over his Kingdom.

In March, the Mayiga announced that the Kabaka had travelled to Germany for medical check up but he would also use the trip to meet up with several Buganda Kingdom development partners in various European states including Netherlands.

His absence forced Buganda kingdom administration to suspend the annual Kabaka’s birthday celebrations and instead announced that few of his subjects were to hold prayers and thanksgiving on the Kabaka’s 67th Birthday.

Following the suspension, Mayiga told the press that the celebrations will be held ‘sometime in May’ when the Kabaka is available to oversee the run and all activities in the kingdom.
