Oulanyah to be buried next Friday: Govt declares it public holiday: BURIAL PROGRAM

The final program for the burial arrangements for former speaker Jacob Oulanyah is out.

According to the programme released by the National Organizing Committee, Oulanyah’s body is set to arrive at Entebbe International Airport on Friday April 1, 2:00PM aboard Ethiopian Airlines flight and then followed by a series of activities and events leading to his burial the next Friday April 8.

At the airport, the body of the Late Oulanyah will be received by family members and a few leaders and it will immediately the casket will be handed over to A-Plus funeral management service providers.

On Sunday April 03 and Monday April 04, 9PM, Oulanyah’s body will lie in his home in Muyenga Kampala where friends and well-wishers will pay respects to the late speaker.

On Tuesday April 05, at 9AM the body will be moved to parliament where the Rt Hon speaker Anita Among will lead Members of Parliament to pay last respects to Oulanyah. The body will spend a night in parliament.

Wednesday April 06 2022 at 9AM, the body of the Late Oulanyah will be taken to Kololo Independence Grounds for a State Funeral. The president HE Yoweri Museveni will lead the nation in paying tribute to Jacob Oulanyah. At Kololo, the Achbishop COU His Grace Stephen Kazimba Mugalu will be the main celebrant.

However, a maximum of 1500 people including Ministers, MPs, Members of the Judiciary, heads of government agencies, family members and leaders from Acholi sub-region will be allowed to access Kololo ceremonial Grounds. At 3:00PM, the casket containing Oulanyah’s body will be airlifted to Omoro, Lalogi village where his remains will be received by his family and Acholi leaders. There will be a night vigil at his home.

On April 07, Oulanyah’s body will lie at Lagoli for members of the public to pay their final respects and the next day April 08, 9:00AM the burial ceremony will start.

According to Milly Babalanda, Friday April 08, 2022 has been declared a public holiday.

Babalanda also stated that the security minister will soon update the country on security measures which will be taken throughout this period.

She also appealed to the public not to dwell on the 2.1BN budget government has drawn for Oulanyah’s send off because the speaker is Number 3 in the country’s heirachy of power and therefore he deserves a befitting send off.
