Man seen in Video savagely beating up Wife Charged with torture

Matovu Julius, the man who was recorded on video savagely assaulting a woman, has been slapped with charges of torture and domestic violence -Uganda Police have confirmed.

Matovu (32), a resident of Fort Portal committed the offense on Thursday March 10, 2022 in Kyebando Erisa Zone, Kawempe Division in Kampala following public uproar after a phone camera recording showed him savagely assaulting his wife Esther Nasaka went viral.

In a short video which went viral on social media, Matovu is seen pulling his wife by her hair throwing her on the ground and ferociously punching her before he kicked the helpless woman in the face. The victim is heard crying and pleading with Matovu to stop assaulting her.

According to police CIID spokesman Charles Twine, Matovu was today February 14, 2022 arraigned before Nabweru Magistrates Court and charged with torture and Domestic violence.

Twine also says Esther has been taken into shelter for both medical treatment and Psychological support.

Prior to todays events, Matovu has been in police detention at Kawempe Police Station where he has been held. The actual cause of Matovu’s savage acts of domestic violence remains unclear.
