Orthodox Diosece of Gulu, Norther Uganda receives new Bishop

The Orthodox diocese of Gulu and Northern Uganda received a new bishop today.

His Grace Nektarios Kabuye was enthroned this afternoon during an event held at St. Lawrence Orthodox Cathedral in Gulu City, amid joy and alutations from hundreds who braved the scorching sun.

On 12th January 2022, during the closing day of the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, Rev. Fr. Archimandrite Nectarios Kabuye was appointed Bishop-Elect of the New Holy Diocese of Gulu and Northern Uganda.

In his remarks, President Yoweri Museveni who was represented by Vice President Jessica Alupo lauded the humility of the orthodox church having agreed to move the enthronment date a day earlier, in respect of the enthronment of the Bishop of Kumi scheduled for tommorow on Sunday.

In his message, president Museveni reiterated that the colloboration between the Orthodox church and the state will grow to greater heights as government continues to prioritize peace and security.

Archimandrite Nectarios is a native son of Uganda who attained elementary education in Uganda and later went to Athens, Greece for theological and university level education which after he was ordained to priesthood as a celibate priest.

In October 2021 during the Patriarchal visit to Uganda, Fr. Nectarios was elevated to the rank of an Archimandrite by His Beatitude Theodoros II.

The new bishop was also gifted with a brand new car from president Museveni to facilitate him in transport during his days of service.
