Controversial city Lawyer, Male Mabirizi has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for contempt of court.

This follows a longstanding battle Mabirizi has been embroiled in with the judge which recently culminated into a court decision by Justice Musa Sekaana compelling him to pay Shs300m fine for abusing judicial officers.

Last week, Ssekaana summoned Mabirizi to appear in court to show cause why he should not be committed to civil prison over contempt of court.

However, the controversial lawyer did not appear before court but instead hired lawyer Noel Nuwe of Ojok and Company Advocates to represent him.

Mabirizi has been representing himself in all cases but he had instructed Nuwe to represent him to avoid being arrested in the courtroom on orders of the presiding Judge Musa Sekaana.

Today, court sentenced Mabirizi to 18 months in prison and a warrant of arrest against him was issued to the effect.
