Police in Wakiso is investigating a case involving former presidential candidate Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde on allegations of assault.

It is alleged that on September 19, 2021, Gen. Tumukunde beat up one Jasimwa Willy (29 yrs) a laborer using a stick “Enkoni”, accusing him of trespass on his land located at Muduuma in Wakiso District.

According to the Spokesperson for Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) Charles Twine, it is alleged that the Gen. Tumukunde further threatened more harm if he ever got Jasimwa or any other person back on this land without his permission.

The victim was a casual laborer to a one Namusisi Betty who apparently has unresolved land dispute with Gen.Tumukunde.

According to Mr Twine, Gen Tumwine together with other two unidentified people armed with sticks arrived at the contested land at Kasabo Village where Willy with three others were planting maize. Without hesitation, Gen Tumwine canned Willy until the stick broke into pieces.

As if that was not enough, Gen Tumukunde ordered the victim to remove all the manure that had been spread in the garden.

The victim reported the case at Muduuma Police Station but the officers ‘cowardized’ until he went to Wakiso.

The case was recorded with reference number MCB20-2021 and classified as harm after a police surgeon confirmed that Willy was assaulted.

Mr Twine stated that after the ongoing inquiry on witnesses is complete, Gen Tumukunde will be summoned to record a statement.

Gen Tumukunde contested for presidency in January 2021 elections as an independent candidate and got 51,392 votes representing 0.50% of the total vote.
