UGANDA: 2 UPDF Soldiers critically injured in a train accident

Uganda Police has reported an accident in which at-least 2 UPDF soldiers were fatally injured after a vehicle they were travelling in was hit by a train.

The accident occurred this morning at a Railway crossing in Bweyogerere Kinawattaka, Kira Municipality, a few kilometers from the Capital Kampala.

According to the Deputy Police Spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan Luke Owoyesigyire, two UPDF officers sustained serious injuries after a military vehicle – Land Cruiser H4DF2180 was involved in a derailment with a Uganda Railways locomotive.

Owoyesigyire says, the police fire and rescue services was able to rescue two UPDF soldiers albeit, in very critical condition.

The two, both privates, have been taken for treatment.

In a tweet, Owoyesigyire noted that the situation at the scene is now contained and normal traffic has resumed.

The army is yet to comment on the matter.
