Judiciary to investigate Kapchorwa Chief Magistrate Bar Brawl Incident

The Judiciary through the Inspector General of Courts is to investigate the incident in which Kapchorwa Chief Magistrate Mr Teko Lokeris is alleged to have been arrested and detained following a bar brawl.

Chief Magistrate Teko Lokech’s arrested followed a scuffle at Mount Moroto Hotel on Sunday, as police tried to arrest him on the allegations that he pulled a firearm and threatened to shoot dead a businessman identified as Mathew Lorika.

In a video clip which circulated on social media Mr Lokeris, a son to State minister for Energy Peter Lokeris, is seen being manhandled by police at Moroto police station at Moroto.

According to a press release issued on Monday, the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Ms Sarah Langa Siu has already instructed the Inspector General of Courts to expedite the investigations into the incident and appropriate action taken.

“As a competent and accountable arm of governmet that is mandated to administer justice to all, we are closely following up the matter with Moroto Police so that thorough investigations are carried out to inform appropriate action on the matter.” The statement reads in part.

It is alleged that when the magistrate was asked to surrender his pistol by the hotel management, he refused which prompted one of the bodyguards of a principal who was in the hotel to step in and disarmed him before calling the District Police Commander.

The Inspector of Courts is an internal organ in the Judiciary mandated to investigate complaints against Judiciary staff, in orfder to ebforce Jucicial Code of Conduct and Ethics for Uganda Public Service.
