Telecom Giant MTN Uganda rewards Team Uganda 2020 Olympics with 175.5M

Telecom giants MTN Uganda has rewarded the entire athletics team that travelled and participated in 2020 Olympics in Tokyo Japan with a collective sum of UGX.175,500,000.

During the event held at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala, Gold Medal Winners; Joshua Cheptegei, Peruth Chemutai were given 50M each while the rest was shared between other members of the contingent including coaches and administrators.

It was also revealed that Joshua Cheptegei will also receive another 25M for Silver medal he won at the competitions in the 10000M race while Jacob Kiplimo gets 10M for his Bronze medal in the same race.

MTN Chief Executive Wim Vanhelleputte who handed over the dummy cheques to the Olympians said the rewards are not only in appreciation of the individuals but also a celebration of the coming of age of the sport MTN Uganda has supported over the years.

This week, President Yoweri Museveni also rewarded the medalists with brand new cars and pledged a 5M, 3M and 1M monthly stipend to winners of Gold, Silver and Bronze at competitions at continental level or beyond.

UAF President Domenic Otucet lauded MTN Uganda for laying a firm foundation for athletics in Uganda and commended the telecom company for being a consistent sponsor for other sports discplines.

Uganda collected a total of four medals in Olympics (2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze) at the Tokyo Olympics all from Athletics category. Uganda has partnered with Olympics Federation since 2004 sponsored various athletics programs including the Kampala Marathon.
