Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai wins Gold at Tokyo Olympics

Ugandan steeplechase champion Peruth Chemtai has won gold at Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the Women’s 300m finals today.

Chemtai beat other eight competitors completing the race with a new national record of 9:01.41, ahead of American Frerichs, Hyvin Kiyeng of Kenya takes bronze.

The Ugandan runner finished 2nd in the women’s 3000 metres steeplechase heat 1 at a time of 9:12.72 to qualify for the final on August 1.

Chemtai’s is Uganda’s 10th medal in Olympics history and she enters the record books as the first female to win Gold for Uganda in Olympics.
