Leader of Atheist Society of Kenya resigns after ‘finding Jesus Christ’

The Secretary of an atheist organization in Kenya (AIK) Seth Mahinga, has resigned saying he has found Jesus and is no longer interested in promoting atheism in the East African country.

In a press statement released on Saturday, Harrison Mumia, the president of atheists society in Kenya broke the news of Mahinga’s quitting after serving for one and a half years.

Mumia said Seth informed him he had made the decision to resign his position as secretary of the society because he had found Jesus Christ.

“Seth’s reason for resigning is that he has found Jesus Christ and he is no longer interested in promoting atheism. We thank him for serving the society with dedication…” Harrison Mumia wrote.

He also stated that the position now remains vacant and those interested in joining the association should tender in their CVs.

The society of atheists was established in Nairobi, Kenya, registered under the Societies Act in Kenya on February 17, 2016. Harrison Mumia is the founder and president and Daisy Siongok is vice president. The foundation with its headquarters in Cargen House, Nairobi boasts of

In 2016, April, the society’s registration was suspended by the then Attorney General, Githu Muigai, due to pressure from the Kenya National Congress of Pentecostal Churches, who claimed the establishment of the group threatened the public peace. Its leaders however took the case to the High Court of Kenya challenging the suspension.

The Association has pursued several campaigns in court to advocate for the scrapping of religious education in Kenyan’s basic education curriculum.

They have also lobbied for February 17 to be declared as an atheist national holiday in Kenya.
