Massive fire gutted warehouses owned by Joint Medical Stores on 5th street, Industrial Area in Kampala destroying property estimated to be in millions.
An eye witness confirmed to this website that the fire destroyed property in warehouses owned by Joint Medical Stores, Blue Band and Mi-Tech electronics located on 5th street.
According to the witness account, fire was ignited by sparks from welding work which was going on inside one of the warehouses. At the time of filing this report, Police Fire fighters were trying to extinguish fire.
However, the actual cause of the fire and the nature of property destroyed are yet to be established.
A video recorded on site shows workers trying to save property as fire brigade battled the flames and a huge cloud of black smoke covered the skies.
According to Red Cross Uganda, a humanitarian agency reported that no casualties had been registered by press time.
A tweet from Red Cross Uganda stated that Police fire Brigade responded in time.
