Former Deputy Prime Minister Paul Orono Etyang has passed on after reportedly losing the battle to Covid-19.
Ambassador Etiang (82), died at International Hospital Kampala (IHK) where he was reportedly rushed three days ago after he collapsed at his home in Muyenga, upscale Kampala.
Born 1938 in Tororo, Etiang was educated at Busoga College, Mwiri and Makerere. He later served as Uganda’s High Commissioner to Britain in 1969 and Minister of State in Amin’s government in 1971.
He also served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Information in President Yoweri Museveni earlier regime.
His most significant appointment was when he became High Commissioner to Britain for the government of Milton Obote from June 1969 until 1971 when he was withdrawn to the Foreign Ministry in Kampala.
A highly able diplomat, he emerged as one of the outspoken leaders in the new NRM government and played a leading Part in discussing and formulating the constitution in the 90’s.
Amb Etiang is the father to Uganda Cranes Chief Pilot Micheal Etiang who recently flew the newly acquired UG Airlines Airbus Neo330a from France to Entebbe International Airport.
