Government has disputed reports circulating on social media about the death of the Second Deputy Prime Minister, Al-Hajji Kirunda Kivejinja.

Contrary to the reports, government says they are false and should be ignored, according to the Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Judith Nabakoba.

“Disregard the false information circulating on social media about the death of the Second Deputy Prime Minister Rt. Hon Al-Hajji Kirunda Kivejinja. He is still alive but under care. His blood pressure and sugars are under control,” Nabakooba posted on Twitter.

Kivejinja was admitted two weeks ago and this is the second time rumor is circulating on social media platforms that he has died of COVID-19.

A family member who preffered to speak on condition of anonymity also confirmed that Kivejinja is still alive but still in hospital. She however did not specifically state whether the deputy primier’s situation is improving or not.

Last week, his nephew, Prof. Wasswa Balunywa reported that Kivejinja’s health condition had stabilized and that he was still admitted at Mulago Hospital.

“He is suffering from diabetes, but malaria complicated it,” he said.

Balunywa said the 85-year-old minister was outside Kampala for some official duty when his condition deteriorated.

“When President Yoweri Museveni found out about it, he directed that he should be taken to Mulago Hospital. But he does not have COVID-19. Let us pray and continue to pray for his good health,” he said.
