FDC presidential candidate Patrick Amuriat arrested

Presidential candidate for the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat has been arrested.

Amuriat was arrested along the border between Rubirizi and Bushenyi districts on his campaign trail currently covering Ankole sub-region.

According to Uganda Police Force (UPF), Amurait was this morning summoned to Mbarara Police Station for statement recording over the disturbing incident of November 2, 2020, where he allegedly knocked the DPC Mbarara using a boda-boda.

Eng. Amuriat was driven to Mbarara Central Police Station for statement recording, from where he will be taken to court.

According to police, Amuriat defied using agreed routes to Kakyeeka Stadium which was the campaign venue and opted to use porous routes from Isingiro district through Buremba road in Kakoba Division where he was intercepted at Bishop Stuart University with intentions to go through the main business centre of Mbarara city.

Amurait then used boda-boda to flee from security agents who were trying to block his convoy from proceeding to the City center. In the scuffle, the District Police Commander was knocked off and fell.

However sources indicate that the rider of motorcycle registration number UEX 650D who was carrying Amuriat is set to face charges of careless driving and causing an accident.

“Any new developments will be communicated” UPF posted on their official Twitter account.

According to Mr. Walid Mulindwa the FDC youth national chairperson, the party has already dispatched a team of lawyers to defend Amuriat who is expected to arraigned before court today in Mbarara.
