5 NUP supporters critically Injured, 1 dies after Bobi’s Campaign meeting in Nakifuma

One person is reported to have died and several others sustained serious injuries after a vehicle carrying supporters of National Unity Platform (NUP) lost control and overturned in Nakifuma on Monday.

NUP presidential candidate Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi was scheduled to address campaign meetings in the area today.

Sources indicate the the vehicle belonging to NUP MP aspirant for Nakifuma county, Fred Ssimbwa which was part of Kyagulanyi’s convoy overturned as it approached Nagojje as the convoy sped off seriously injuring 5 people in the process. The injured were rushed to Nagalama Hospital where one was later pronounced dead.

Nankya, a CID officer attached to Nakifuma Police Station confirmed the accident but said it happened way after the campaign meeting as NUP contrary to reports that it happened at Nakifuma.
She did not however provide details of the accident but also stated that several accidents associated with Kyagulanyi’s campaigns happened in Nakifuma today.

NUP however claims that the accident were caused by police trucks which knocked down their supporters.

“Just after our campaign meeting in Nakifuma earlier this morning, police has fired live bullets to our supporters leaving five of them dead. Many have succumbed to serious injuries when police trucks drove and knocked them down” NUP posted on the party’s official social media platform.

Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi Wine was scheduled to campaign in Mukono, Buikwe and Lugazi today as campaigns enter the forth week.

The deaths come a day after President Museveni said the practice of civilians attacking armed security personnel will not happen again due to associated dire consequences.
