At least 5 special police officers are feared dead in a roadside bomb attack along the Mogadishu-Afgoye road in Somalia on Wednesday.

Also referred to as “Haramcad,” the police officers on special operations fell victim when a bomb blast targeted their vehicle outside the capital Mogadishu, police said.

The police conducts daily patrol operation in the area to guard the employees of a Turkish company building on Mogadishu-Afgoye road.

The attack took place in the vicinity of Eelasha Biyaha (lower Shabelle region) located 16 kilometers (9 miles) south west of Mogadishu.

The wounded personnel were admitted to Mogadishu hospital. Roads between Mogadishu and Afgoye were also blocked to hunt down the attackers who are highly suspected to be Al-Shabab miltants.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack but Al-Qaeda-affiliated group, Al-Shabaab has always claimed responsibility for similar attacks against civilian and security.
