Landslides caused by heavy rains pounding areas of Kasese District is feared to have led to loss of lives and destruction of property, latest reports indicate.
The landslides in Bwesumbu Sub County, Bwesumbu Parish, Kinyamagana village in Kasese district on Tuesday evening caused devastation to several homesteads leaving immense destruction to lives and property.
According to a relief agency Uganda Red Cross (URC) the search and efforts to ascertain the extent of damage were futile. However, 3 children were found dead.
The deceased have been identified as Mbusa Geofrey (17), Tungu precious (8) and Kiiza lordric 3 years. The three belonged to parents; Tembo Sibulire and Erinora Tembo.
The house was completely down so the family members together with other affected community members forced to seek refuge at Kinyamagana Full Gospel Church.
By press time, the bodies of the deceased were at the same venue.
In a separate incident, the heavy rains this evening also caused river Kuruhe in Kasese burst its banks and the over flow affecting families in Buhuhira & Bwesumu Sub-counties.
URC spokesperson Irene Nakasiita stated that 5 people are feared missing.
