Joshua Cheptegei promoted to Superintendent of Police

The Police Advisory Committee (PAC) has recommended long-distance runner Joshua Cheptegei for promotion to his next rank of ASP.

Inspector of Police (IP) Cheptegei, who broke four (4) World Records in long distance running competitions,

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), John Martins Okoth Ochola, who is the Chairperson of the PAC made the announcement to honor the athlete on Wednesday October 21, during the meeting.

The IGP in addition, tasked the Director of Logistics and Engineering to allocate a Double Cabin Pick-up and a Coaster Mini-bus to the Police Athletics team to support their training in Kapchorwa in fulfillment of his earlier stage.

In the same meeting, it was revealed that a block at Kabalye Police Training School will be named Cheptegei in recognition of the honor he brought to the institution and the nation at large.

The athlete has so far had a phenomenal season, where he broke 4 (four) World records. He is now the 5000m World record holder, a double Common Wealth Gold Medalist, and is also the reigning World Cross Country and World 10,000m Champion.

Cheptegei’s undisputed feat was sealed this year after breaking 3 world records. Also the Cross Country champion, Cheptegei has re-written history by breaking two records in a space of seven weeks. In December last year, he also broke the 10km World Record.

The record breaking IP Cheptegei Joshua now has his eyes set on the Olympics 2021, where he aims to beat the Olympics Records for the 5000m and 10,000m.
Once again we would like to congratulate him for the exceptional accomplishments. We believe his promotion to the next rank will not only boost his performance, but will inspire many other young police athletes into excelling in their fields.
