Wakiso Chief Magistrate’s court has issued criminal summons to Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine over giving false information, registration by false pretense and uttering false documents which contravenes the law.

According to the summons, Kyagulanyi is required to appear before Grade One Magistrate’s Court in Wakiso on 16th this month to answer charges in a case filed by city lawyer, Male Mabirizi.

“You are hereby commanded by government to appear in this court on the 16th Day of September 2020 at 10:00AM soon thereafter the case can be heard” the summons read in part.

Kyagulanyi is required to answer 3 charges including giving false information contrary to section 115(a) of the Penal Code Act, Obtaining registration by false pretense contrary to section 312 of the Penal Code Act, and uttering false documents contrary to section 315 and 347 of the Penal Code Act.

Last month, Male Mabirizi ran to the Magistrate’s Court last week seeking court to issue an arrest warrant against Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu over claims of giving false information to government agencies.

In an application filed with Chief Magistrate on 24th August 2020, Mabirizi claims the arrest warrant is in respect of a complaint of criminal case number 598 of 2020, under Section 42(1) (c) and 3 of the Magistrate’s court Act cap 16 Uganda Vs Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert.

The complaint, Mabirizi alleged is supported by evidence contained in his own affidavit to which he asked the magistrate to sign a charge sheet for the offense committed by Kyagulanyi for allegedly giving false information, obtaining registration by false pretense and uttering false documents contrary to the law.

Earlier on, Mabirizi had disclosed that the process was underway to institute private prosecution against Kyagulanyi, to block his nomination as a presidential candidate on account of purported dishonesty.

Mabirizi contends that the National Unity Platform (NUP) leader who also doubles as the Kyadondo East lawmaker lied about his age, which is a criminal offence under the law. Mabirizi also claims he was availed with all documents presented by Bobi Wine to EC in 2017 Kyadondo East by-election and discovered dishonesty on Kyagulanyi’s side.

Kyagulanyi has since disputed the allegations as baseless and diversionary tendencies by government to frustrate his bid for presidency.

In a dossier he released yesterday, Kyagulanyi also assured his supporters that his records are clear and therefore there should be no cause for alarm.

“My assurance to all of you friends is that there is no cause for alarm with regard to all my records – whether academic or otherwise. Unfortunately, at every interval, they have always easily found some tools to use in these shameful maneuvers. They have done worse things and they will do more, but nothing, completely nothing will stop our revolution,” he said.
