Uganda registers a record 318 COVID-19 cases: The Highest in a single day

Uganda has registered a record 318 coronavirus cases the highest number of coronavirus cases ever registered in a single day.

The new development was announced in an update by the minister for Health, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng.

Amuru prison 154, Parama 136, Kampala 65, Kiryandongo 14, Arua 8, Buikwe 4, Masaka 2, Manfwa 1, Gulu 9, Mbarara 9, Wakiso 7, Buikwe, Kitgum 8, Jinja 1, Masindi 1, Mityana 1, Wakiso 7, Luwero 1, Masindi 1, Mbale 4, Kitgum 8, Bugiri 1.

Of the new cases, health workers were 20, Truck drivers 8. All the new cases are mild cases according to Dr. Aceng.

The cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases since the outbreak was confirmed in the country rose to 2166 with 20 deaths following a single case of death today.

Kampala has also been named as the hot-spot for COVID-19 in Uganda with Makindye, Nakawa and Kawempe Division as the most affected.

Of the 154 new cases in Amuru, 152 are prisoners and they are currently under treatment in auxiliary health centers.

Currently, Kampala Metropolitan Area has registered the highest number of community transmissions so far with 540 cases reported since the 24th March 2020 of which 342 cases registered  within the last one week.

Of the 20 cases of death registered so far, 15 are from Kampala with 6 deaths registered in only one week.

Dr Aceng called on everyone to work together to interrupt transmission and save the population from a catastrophic situation as witnessed in other countries. She appealed to Ugandans to abide by the regulations from the MOH.

She also noted that government will put in place measures to strictly enforce prevention at person and institutional levels.

The latest case of death is a 49 year old male from Mbale district.
