Authorities in Rwanda have reported that landslides and flooding of rivers due to torrential rains have left several roads in in the country impassable.
The heavy rains the region is experiencing have caused landslides at Pindura in Nyungwe forest, in the southwestern part of the country, blocking Nyamagabe- Nyamasheke-Rusizi road, authorities reported on Sunday.
Nyungwe forest is located in southwestern Rwanda on the border with Burundi. No fatalities have been reported, but travelers have been advised to use Muhanga-Karongi road as efforts to clear the road are ongoing.
Floods were also reported on Saturday when the levee at Nyabarongo river broke causing flooding that made the road Muhanga – Ngororero – Mukamira impassable.
As the region battles its share of the coronavirus pandemic, the vulgarizes of weather threaten to catalyze the already bad situation.
Authorities in Western Kenya last week reported flash floods and landslides when rains swept away several houses in a trading centre between the counties of Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot killing several people.
