Ug. Airlines finally Secures an Operator Certificate

Uganda Airlines has finally secured an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) in a bid to resume operations of a national carrier. The certificate issued by the Civil Aviation Authority bears 26th July 2019 as effective date, and expires on 25th July 2020 authorizing the airline to undertake aircraft operations for a period of one year.

Certificate number UG/CAA/AOC/106 prescribes the operator’s name as Uganda National Airlines Company Limited, but under a trading name Uganda Airlines.

An Air Operating Certificate is an approval granted to an aircraft operator to allow it to use aircraft for commercial purposes.

The issuance of an AOC ignites prospects that the airline is on schedule to start operations in August this year.

“As promised, Uganda Airlines has completed the 5-phase certification process required to obtain the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) as per the regulations. We are on schedule to start commercial flights by end of August starting with Nairobi, Dar es salaam and Mogadishu” Hon. Monica Azuba the Minster for Works and Transport, tweeted.

Uganda Airlines received two CRJ-900 bombardier planes in April this year as part of the fleet expected to concertize efforts to revive the national carrier that has been in limbo for the last 18 years, but commencement of operations had been delayed by several hurdles in the certification process amongst which is acquisition of an Air Operators Certificate.
