Traffic Department issues Crucial Weather Alert for Drivers during the Rainy Season

To ensure safety on the roads, motorists have been advised to maintain their vehicles but also adhere to crucial traffic and road safety regulations

As the rainy season sets in, the Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety has reminded all motorists to exercise extra caution on the roads as fog, mist, heavy rainfall, floods and reduced visibility can make driving conditions increasingly hazardous.

To ensure safety on the roads, motorists have been advised to maintain their vehicles but also adhere to crucial traffic and road safety regulations.

In an weather alert issued on Saturday, SP Kananura Micahel the CLO-Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety implored motorists to check tires, brakes, and lights to ensure they are in good working condition.

Drivers are further advised to reduce speed and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.

Drivers should avoid flooded areas and shouldn’t drive through stagnant water, as it can be difficult to gauge the depth and may cause their vehicle to stall or be swept away.

“To increase visibility, the drivers should use headlights and ensure windshield wipers are in good condition to improve your visibility. If visibility is extremely poor, find a safe place to park & wait until conditions improve” SP Kananura noted.

“..Reduce the risk of crashes by avoiding overtaking, especially in poor visibility conditions. By following these simple yet crucial safety tips, you can significantly reduce the risk of crashes & ensure a safe journey.” He added.
