LOP Ssenyonyi vows to join Kiteezi people in demand for justice

The Leader of Opposition in parliament, Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi has vowed to join people in Kiteezi who lost their loved ones and those who lost their properties during the Kiteezi landfill incident to take government and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to court.

The LOP who is also Nakawa West MP, made the statement while addressing the media at parliament on Friday. Ssenyonyi noted that the incident that happened to Kiteezi was negligence of the highest order because the officials of KCCA were aware that any time the garbage was to cause a disaster and there were warnings, but nothing was done to prevent it.

Ssenyonyi tasked government to move faster and restore livelihoods of the affected persons and ensure that all the affected persons are compensated.

He added that if government fails to immediately compensate the affected people, as opposition are going to engage those people and take government to court.

He added that it is very sad that the government has not yet held anybody responsible for the disaster which happened to Kiteezi which claimed lives of many people and led to loss of properties.

The LOP also tasked authorities responsible to come up and address the nation about the clear plan to deal with the garbage since people are currently stuck with garbage in their homes which could result into a public health disaster.
