URA tax collections surpassed revenue target for July 2024

This however comes during a period when the business community especially in Kampala Capital City have been at loggerheads with URA over what they called and unfair tax environment in the country

Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has exceeded the revenue collection target for the last month of July, by UGX. 93.9billions.

According to URA Commissioner General, Musinguzi Rujoki, domestic taxes collections amounted to Shs.1.3trillion against a target of Shs.1.2trillion creating a surplus of Shs67.3b, while customs taxes totaled Shs853.4b, with a surplus of Shs26.6b.

In addition, Mr Rujoki said URA expects to receive an extra Shs20b from the Ministry payments for the Pay As You Earn and Withholding Tax collected from the ministries.

This however comes during a period when the business community especially in Kampala Capital City have been at loggerheads with URA over what they called and unfair tax environment in the country. The traders closed shops in April forcing the president to intervene and suspend some of the revenue collections including penalties for defaulters of Value Added Tax (VAT). Up to now, there exists a stalemate between government and traders over the matter of VAT and the digital tax collection tool -EFRIS.
