Bunamwaya: 2 Confirmed dead after a Building structure collapsed

Despite the immediate efforts of the community members who pulled them out, the two men were pronounced dead at the scene

The Kampala Metropolitan Police are currently investigating a tragic incident in Bunamwaya Parish in Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District where a building structure collapsed last night and killed two people.

According to police, the incident occurred on Thursday July 25th, 2024 at the residence of Mr. Mubiru Julius, located at Katale Cell at approximately 8 PM, when an entrance gate collapsed, tragically killing two construction workers on site.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy PRO, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said the victims identified as Mugerwa Joseph (22), a resident of Nyanama, and Semakula David (22), were working on the entrance gate when the support pillars are suspected to have failed, causing a heavy slab to fall on them. Despite the immediate efforts of the community members who pulled them out, the two men were pronounced dead at the scene.

He said police from Ngobe, Kajjansi, and the Fire Prevention and Rescue services arrived promptly to assess the situation and determine the cause of the gate’s collapse. The bodies of the deceased have been transported to the City Mortuary at Mulago for postmortem examination.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. Our team, with the assistance of experts, is conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to this tragic event. Further details will be provided as the investigation progresses” Owoyesigyire stated.
