A section of road between Busega Roundabout and Kyengera along Kampala-Masaka Highway has caved in forcing diversion of traffic flowing in and out of Kampala City.
According to a notice from the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, the road has partially sunk-in and the traffic police together with Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) Engineers are currently assessing the damage on this busy highway.
The notice issued by the PRO Michael Kananura, motorists approaching Busega Roundabout going to Masaka are advised to use Nakawuka Road at Natete Traffic lights or Mityana road to avoid congestion untill UNRA advises otherwise.
According to the spokesperson of UNRA Allan Ssempebwa, engineers have already cordoned the section of the road and still assessing the damage.
Initial reports from UNRA point to erosion of the road which has caused damage to approximately 1.5 meters of the road pavement/carriageway near the embankment. UNRA says the damage is a consequence of rising water levels in the Lubigi swamp area.
