The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Thomas Tayebwa has directed Minister for Education to present a statement regarding the poor performance of students with disability in the recently released PLE results.

The Deputy Speaker made the directive after receiving several concerns from the MPs on the poor performance of the children with disability.

“Out of 263 students with disability (blind) who sat in the recently released PLE, none of them passed in Division One”, Hon. Thomas Tayebwa “This will help us to see how we can support the ministry so that the children are supported in their education.”

Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) officially released Primary leaving Examinations (PLE) on January 27th.

Kassanda north MP, Patrick Nsamba suggested that since the committee on Education intends to table a report, they should also be tasked to report on the issue of special needs.

Tororo District woman MP, Hon. Sarah Opendi informed the house that there is a growing trend where parents think that when a child has not scored aggregates four, they have failed. This has put a lot of pressure on head teachers to start cheating for their students so that they score aggregates four. She pointed out that it’s not a norm that every child should get aggregates four because children are not the same.

The Deputy speaker gave the Ministry of Education two weeks to come up with a comprehensive statement on the matter.
