The ministry of Education and Sports has released a detailed plan for students reporting for study at schools within Metropolitan Kampala area starting Monday the 10th January, 2022.

The plan follows a directive issued by president Museveni during the nation address on 31st December 2021, tasking the education ministry to come up with a detailed plan to prevent and mitigate against traffic congestion in metropolitan Kampala area during re-opening of schools.

According to the released plan, all learners in day schools within districts of Kampala, Wakiso, Mpigi and Mukono shall report for classes on Monday 10th but Boarding schools shall follow a staggered reporting plan with effect from Monday 10th, 2022 and no student is allowed to report before 10th.

The staggered re-opening plan, which the ministry of education says Boarding schools in KMP must adhere to, is as follows;

A-level students and Boarding pupils in lower primary in Mpigi and Wakiso districts shall report on Monday 10th January, while their counterparts in Kampala and Mukono districts will report on Tuesday 11th January, 2022.

O-level students and Boarding pupils in p5, p6 and p7 in Mpigi and Wakiso districts will report on Wednesday 12th January 2022 while their counterparts in Kampala and Mukono districts will report at schools on Thursday 13th January, 2022.

Students in International schools whether offering Day or Boarding shall also comply with the re-opening plan as issued by the education ministry.

However, the ministry of education says schools which had already communicated to parents a staggered reporting plan that goes beyond 13 January may retain such a plan provided no leaners report before 10th January 2022. It also noted that it is the parent or guardians responsibility to ensure learners are provided with face masks when travelling to school using public means of transport.
