Uganda’s president Yoweri Museveni has said there was a political motive behind the assassination attempt on out-going Works Minister Gen Katumba Wamala.

Museveni made the revelation while delivering a post-budget speech on Wednesday before members of parliament at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala on Thursday. Last week, unknown gunmen sprayed bullets on Gen Katumba’s official car killing his daughter and his daughter on spot.

In his speech, Museveni said the attempt on Gen Katumba’s life was not an ordinally crime but rather a definite political move. Without being specific on the purported attackers, Museveni also insinuated that there are several individuals behind the attack on Gen Katumba.

“You should think its crime…no no no. This was a definite political motive” Museveni said before adding “We shall know which pig was behind it because they are different pigs”

He castigated individuals behind the recent spate of insecurity in Uganda whom he referred to as parasites that have always worked to antagonize wealth creation efforts in the country. He said use of assassinations as a weapon to defeat others is a sign of weakness because people are not sure of them selves.

“There are so many people I would’ve killed because they were annoying me, like Cecilia Ogwal, I used to call her ‘dano orach’ meaning bad woman because she had a bad tongue. But why kill an opponent? If I’d killed Besigye, he’d instead be a hero in the eyes of the people” Museveni said.

Museveni vowed to crush the ‘pigs/parasites’ behind the attack on Gen Katumba.

Museveni disclosed that he has already engaged the new ministers in charge of Security and Internal Affairs on the process to install digital monitors in all vehicles and motorcycles as a measure to facilitate easy tracking of criminal elements.

I don’t want any more wastage of time on investigations. Every vehicle must have a digital monitor. Every piki-piki must have a digital monitor, centrally monitored. If you try to remove it, we shall see you and go for you” He stated.

Earlier, Museveni said efforts by the National Resistance Movement to deliver social economic transformation have always encountered opposition from groups of “parasites” whose ideology manifest in feudalism and sectarianism.

Museveni vowed to defeat the “parasites” as has done before with other opposing groups who have used insurgencies and negative propaganda against his government.
