The army has disputed claims that a military truck belonging to Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) rammed into a motorcycle rider knocking him dead on the spot along Sir Apollo Kaggwa Road.

The media on Sunday reported that a “reckless Army officer knocked dead a boda-boda rider” around Chez Johnson Hotel in Nankulabye, a report the army says is false.

Speaking to this website, UPDF 2nd Battalion Kakiri, Maj. Biral Katamba said the victim (yet to be identified) recklessly rammed into the army lorry instead, contrary to what was reported.

Maj. Katamba said the army has been able to access a video footage of the incident/accident where a UPDF Vehicle H4DF 2092 belonging to Kampala Central Battalion allegedly knocked the motorcycle rider.

In the Police CCTV footage which this website saw, the rider (victim) is seen entering a one way lane at the traffic lights at a terrible speed and ramming into the UPDF Vehicle, Canter Registration number; HD4F 2092 smashing into the windscreen of the lorry. The video footage was captured by roadside Police CCTV cameras.

The driver of military truck instantly stopped the vehicle as the motionless body of the rider lay on the tarmac.

According to Maj. Katamba, the incident happened at the Chez Johnson Hotel, Nakulabye near Sir Appolo Kaggwa traffic lights on the 11st Oct 2020 at 1833hrs.

Maj. Katamba said the driver of the military truck reported the incident at Wandegeya Police Station but he could not specifically state more details since the army had not received particulars of the victim or the whereabouts of his motorcycle.
