A total of 337720 candidates sat  the 2019 exams, a 2285 (0.8 percent) increase from the previous year.

The number of female candidates who sat surpassed that of males making up to 50.2 percent, an increase from 49.5 percent in 2018.

398 more girls than boys sat for UCE.

Female candidates performed better than male candidates in English language. In other large entry subjects, male show better performance, with the difference more marked in Maths and the sciences.

Males performed better than females in Division One and Two.

Overall performance improved but with a lower margin compared to what it was in 2018. National (mean) failure rate dropped.

UNEB detected a decline in exam malpractices in 2019 compared to 2018.

Language deficiency in English was evident as reflected in failure of candidates to understand what questions required, with students presenting relevant answers.

Inadequate coverage of the syllabus with teachers from some schools rushing through the syllabus in 3 years skipping some topics so that they can leave one year for revision.
