“We have already written to destination countries for permission to operate…it will be late August” -Eng Azuba.
Revived Uganda Airlines will commence commercial flights towards the end of August not in July as earlier communicated.
The delay, according to Eng. Monica Ntege Azuba are due to lack of an Airline Operating Certificate (AOC).
“The bombardiers are there. They are undergoing test flights, a phase Uganda Airlines must go through before CAA issues an Airline Operating Certificate” said Minister Azuba.
It was expected that the airlines would start operations in July, but minister Azuba says that cannot be possible as the new expected date for the AOC is July 28.
She however noted that once the certificate is issued, management will embark on phase (5) final phase that involves securing destination approvals among other things.
“We have already written to destination countries for permission to operate in their countries and the law requires 30 days for them to respond. I will not set specific dates for commencement of frights but it will be late August” said Azuba.
In response to concerns over the Airlines Board, Azuba refuted allegations that those appointed on the board are not experienced, saying that there were robust interviews and those that went through are the best of the lot.
