There’s nothing as embarrassing as body odour. It not only reduces your confidence, if you’re the one emitting the bad odour, but it also makes those around you uncomfortable.

As you well know, we all sweat. It’s part of our body’s natural process to help regulate your temperature. When this sweat comes into contact with the bacteria on your skin it provides a good environment for the bacteria to thrive. Body odour is a by-product of this.

Here are 5 tips on how you can deal with body odour and get rid of it without having to continuously apply deodorants or perfumes;

1. Drink a lot of water

Since body odour is full of toxins, drinking plenty of water throughout the day will help flush out these toxins therefore reducing the odour.

Drinking a lot of water also helps to reduce chances of getting constipated, it helps clear your skin giving it a glow, it boosts your energy levels, can help you lose weight, etc. Therefore, to combat body odour, drink at least eight glasses of water a day.

2. Baking soda

Baking soda has many uses including decreasing body odour. Since it has a high pH, it can reduce the acidity in odour-causing bacteria thus, you sweat less. Less sweat means less odour too.

When using baking soda, mix one-part baking soda and one-part lemon juice and apply to your armpits at night.

3. Eat more citrus fruits

Apart from being a rich source of vitamin C, citrus fruits are also highly acidic. Eating them more often will alter your body’s pH making it harder for bacteria to thrive. As a result, you will have less body odour.

4. Green tea

Green tea contains antioxidants and tannins which can help reduce body odour. Antioxidants help to remove toxins from your body and tannins reduce how much you sweat. Therefore, drinking more green tea will increase the antioxidants and tannins in your body keeping body odour at bay.

5. Vinegar

Vinegar, white or apple cider, changes your skin’s pH making it harder for odour-causing bacteria to stick around. Simply mix one-part vinegar to two-parts water and spray your underarms. You can add a few drops of essential oils to this mixture and make your own deodorant.

Keep in mind that taking frequent showers, wearing fabrics that breathe like cotton, keeping the area dry and wearing a suitable deodorant can help to mask body odour.
