Criminal Investigations into circumstances surrounding a man who was yesterday intercepted with human head at parliament have confirmed that the victim is a child from Masaka.
CID Police spokesperson, CP Charles Atwine said DNA tests ran today confirmed that the headless trunk which was recently discovered in Kijjabwemi, Masaka, matched tests conducted on the head and therefore confirming the origin of the head.
The parents of the slain child, Charles Senyonga and his wife also confirmed that Joseph Niwashaba, the man who was found in possession of the human head, was living with them before he disappeared with the child only to find it slain with the head missing.
The head was also confirmed by the family as belonging to their slain child and it has already been given to the family for decent burial together with the trunk.
Atwine said police has found leads indicating that Joseph Nuwashaba could be linked to several other cases of child murder in Masaka area where he was accommodated by the aggrieved family of Senyonga not knowing about his sinister character.
He said Niwashaba will be taken to the scene of murder as investigations continue to dig for more evidence and if ascertain if he was acting alone.
Police however noted that Nuwashaba will be subjected to mental check-up as one way to prove whether the suspect intended to committed the offense or he was under influence.
Joseph Niwashaba (22 years) and a born of Bushenyi District, is alleged to have sought refuge at Senyonga’s home in Masaka while he was travelling back to Bushenyi from Kampala after a lockdown was imposed on the country in March due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The family allowed him temporally stay at their home until recently when the incident happened.
Yesterday, Niwashaba was intercepted by security at parliament with the slain child’s head claiming he had a gift for Speaker Rebecca Kadaga. Security at the check point insisted he opens the gift before they found out it was a fresh human head.
In her communication to the house while opening today’s plenary sitting, Kadaga appealed to security agencies to investigate the matter to it’s logical conclusion.
