As agitation for re-opening of places of worship rages on, concern has been focused on usage of Places of worship after a video was released showing leaders of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) holding a political meeting in a Church.

The video making rounds on social media shows Capt. Mike Mukula holding a political meeting with members of ruling NRM party in premises alleged to be a Church.

The video has since aroused public concern over the usage of Church premises for political meetings while places of worship remain closed due to measures against the covid-19 pandemic.

In the video clip, Mukula who is aspiring to retain his position as NRM Vice Chairman for Eastern Region is heard telling the congregants how they have reaped big in having Mbale municipality elevated to city status.

President Museveni ordered closure of places of worship and public gatherings in the March, 2020 lockdown as one of the measures to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Four months down the road, agitation for opening of places of worship has intensified following phased the lifting of lockdown which has seen a few sectors of the economy opened.

The phased lifting of the lockdown however has been perceived by a section of the public as inapropriate with religious leaders claiming that places of worship should have also been opened to allow faithfuls to worship during these tough times.

Religious leaders also claim they are able to control their congreagants and enforce standard operation procedures in the prevention of spread of covid-19.
