Former Oxfam Director Eng. Winnie Byanyima officially took office at United Nations as the new UNAIDS boss.
Winnie took oath on Thursday at UN offices in New York in presence of the UN secretary General Antonio Guterres.
“I am greatly honored by the UN SG and I’m excited to lead UNAIDS as the world enters the decade of action to achieve the SDGs by 2030. We will challenge inequalities in health and fight to remove barriers in the way of prevention, treatment and care for women, girls and key populations.” She said.
Winnie Byanyima was appointed UNAIDS executive director on 14th August 2019 following a comprehensive selection process that involves a search committee constituted by UNAIDS program coordinating board taking over from Dr. Michel Sidibe who led the agency for ten years.
