Kampala, Uganda – March 14, 2025: The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has released the 2024 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results, revealing an impressive 98.8% overall pass rate.
The results released by Education and Sports minister, Hon Janet Museveni, reflected a high percentage of candidates who qualified for the award of UACE with, only 1632 candidates representing 1.2% of the total number failing the exams. According to UNEB, a total of 92,273 candidates who sat for senior six exams in 2024 (65.5%) qualified for admission to degree courses compared to 80,816 (73.6%) in 2023.
The overall results also showed that female candidates outperformed their male counterparts at Principal level Pass (A-E) in all the humanity subjects, Physics and General Paper, solidifying a positive trend in academic excellence among girls.
According to UNEB officials, girls registered higher scores in humanities and performed exceptionally well in mathematics and science subjects, traditionally dominated by boys. The board attributed this success to increased efforts in promoting girl-child education, improved learning environments, and targeted mentorship programs.
Despite the outstanding performance, UNEB highlighted concerns regarding examination malpractice in certain centers, leading to the cancellation of some results. However, the board assured the public that strict measures were enforced to safeguard the credibility of the examination process.
Education stakeholders commended the resilience of students, teachers, and parents, emphasizing the importance of sustaining the momentum in female education. They encouraged students who did not meet university entry requirements to consider alternative career paths, including vocational and technical training.
The 2024 UACE results reflect Uganda’s steady progress in education, with a growing number of female candidates excelling and breaking barriers in traditionally male-dominated fields.
