Police Officer Dies in Mityana Road Accident

IP Namanya, who was riding a Yamaha motorcycle (Reg No. UP 8016), failed to notice the broken-down truck and crashed into its rear, suffering severe injuries

Mityana, Uganda – March 7, 2025: A police officer has died in a tragic road accident along the Mityana-Mubende highway. The deceased, identified as Inspector of Police (IP) Namanya Nelson, a 48-year-old officer in charge of Kisita Ffu detach in Kassanda District, succumbed to injuries after his motorcycle collided with a stationary truck.

The accident occurred on March 6, 2025, at around 8:00 PM at Buswabulongo, Mityana District. According to preliminary police findings, a Renault truck, registration number UBJ 394S/UAD 535Q, had developed a mechanical issue and was parked on the roadside without any warning signs.

Traffic officers have since examined and documented the scene. The police suspect the careless and inconsiderate parking of the truck contributed to the fatal crash. Efforts are underway to locate and arrest the truck driver, who remains unidentified.

Police have urged motorists to always carry reflector triangles and use them in case of mechanical breakdowns to prevent similar accidents.

IP Namanya’s body is currently at Mityana Hospital mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
