Uganda will host the African Union Extra-Ordinary Summit to Consider the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Strategy & Implementation Plan 2026 – 2035 at Speke Resort Munyonyo between 9th – 11th January 2025.
The event is expected to attract over 2000 participants drawn from the forty-nine (49) AU Member States.
Police confirmed that some roads leading to Speke Resort Munyonyo will be closed to ensure secure & easy access for dignitaries & participants.
The Uganda Police on Tuesday issued a traffic advisory ahead of the summit providing guidance as traffic will be diverted to alternative routes to minimize congestion & ensure a steady flow of traffic on the roads.
According to the advisory, the main routes for the summits will be;
– Kampala-Entebbe Express way to Speke Resort Munyonyo. This will be the summit route.
– Kampala-Entebbe Express way – Northern bypass – Binaisa road, Mulago traffic lights – old kiira road. For the delegates to sleep in the hotels that side.
It should be noted that the summit route (The Kampala-Entebbe Express Way to Speke Resort Munyonyo) covers a stretch from Entebbe International Airport via Kajjansi Interchange. The corridor is expected to be tightly regulated with diversions & holding of traffic & other road users.
The following Diversions will be adhered to during the summit if need arises:-
– At Mpala, Traffic will be diverted to Entebbe Highway. This will leave Entebbe Express way free for Convoy use only.
– At Kisubi, traffic will be diverted to Nakawuka Road and access Kampala city. This diversion will de-congest Entebbe Highway.
– At Kajjansi flyover traffic police will divert motorists from accessing Munyonyo Spur and Express way instead use Kajjansi flyover to Lubowa – Zana.
– There will be diversions at Serena – Kigo traffic lights, Mutungo – Kitiko traffic lights and Busabala junction for any vehicle sighted along Munyonyo Spur.
– There will be a security check point to screen all vehicles and diversion of motorists at Munyonyo round about to face Salaama Road and Buziga.
– Any motorist approaching Munyonyo, will be diverted at UCB Roadto access Buziga – Lukuli areas.
– At Northern bypass, there will be a diversion at Busega flyover and at a slip Road to restrict vehicles from accessing the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway.
– There will be other Traffic direction and diversions along Northern by passat Sentema, Nansana, Bwaise interchange, flyover and slip roads.
– Traffic police will hold traffic flow at other road junctions, access Roads & regulate it according to the movement of delegates.
– Traffic Police will hold all Road users at 50 meters from these junctions.
– All access routes leading to the summit venue and Hotels where the delegates will be residing will be sealed off by security and Traffic. Traffic will be in place to guide further.
– No motorcycles will be allowed to access kajjansi-Munyonyo spur.
