UPDF soldier on shooting rampage kills 3 civilians in Agago, 2 others left injured

Three civilians have been confirmed dead after a UPDF soldier went on shooting rampage in Agago District killing people and leaving two others injured.

The gruesome incident which has been confirmed by the army leadership happened on 20 October 24 at around midnight in Ngora East village, Ngora Parish, Paimol Sub County, Agago North County in Agago district.

In a statement released by the army spokesperson Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, the shooter who is still on the run has been identified as Private Amenoy Bonny (45) hailing from Ocini-Kamudini, Ocini Parish, Kamudini Sub County in Oyam district.

It is alleged that Pte. Amenoy had misunderstandings with his wife Angom Betty who escaped from him. It’s further alleged that he went on a shooting rampage as he was looking for the man that could have taken her.

The particulars of the dead are identified as Apiyo Sunday, 21yrs, Akidi Santino 47 and Ajalo Florence 16 years of the above address. The dead bodies according to the statement were taken to Dr. Amberossoli Memorial Hospital Kalongo for postmortem.

The injured are Kidega Charles Kumakech, 47 and Apiyo Janet 20 who were evacuated to Dr Amberossoli Memorial Hospital Kalongo for further management.

“The UPDF regrets and condemns such an incident of misconduct and remains committed to pursuing the soldier who is still at large for prosecution. A joint investigation by UPDF and sister security agencies is underway.” Kulayigye said in the statement.

In the statement, the UPDF undertook to meet the burial arrangements of the deceased and the army will also meet the medical expenses of the injured.
