Impostor posing as an Army General arrested in Entebbe, found with 39 phones, military stores

A Joint operation of Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) and Uganda Police at Abayita Babiri on Entebbe road, yesterday arrested an army impersonator calling himself General Zainudine Kanyarutokye.

Kanyarutokye’s arrest followed a tip off from his Landlord who reported him after refusing to pay his house rent and went a head to intimidate him claiming that he is an army General.

Upon searching his house, the army says several military stores were recovered including Six (06) pairs of army shoes, military documents, two (02) forged stamps of MoD/VA UPDF SpokesPerson, Toy pistol, army like jacket, photos in military uniform, caps, 39 mobile phones and many other items.

Apparently, the spokesperson UPDF first infantry division, Major Charles Kabona, Kanarutokye is still held at Entebbe Central Police Staion (CPS) as investigations are on going to ascertain details.

“When investigations are done he will be transfered to UPDF 1 DIV HQs Kakiri to appear in DIV Court Martial and answer charges related to ” illegal possession of military stores”, Contrary to section 161 UPDF Act 2005″ Major Kabona said in a statement released on Sunday.

“I would like to appeal to members of the public to always report military impersonators in their vicinity with military stores” he noted.
